Holiday card alternatives--could we just send a bunch of Valentines?

I'm wondering whether we really need to send holiday cards to family and friends this year, and how weird it would be to do a mass mailing with news from our family in, say, February. My spouse and I live kind of far away from our parents and siblings and friends, and I've begun to see Christmas/holiday cards as a way to basically remind them that we exist, and give them our current address. As well as saying hello, best wishes for the season, etc.

This year, we are under contract for a house we hope to be buying first thing in January, so our address update is basically worthless--and I'm reluctant to make a big announcement about the new house at this point. Because who knows?!? The closing might not happen. For any reason. We're feeling overwhelmed with various things and I really don't feel like putting together a card right now. But I also see the importance of mailing cards.

Basically I'm looking for permission to, instead of sending holiday cards this year, mail Valentines/moving announcements to our friends and family. And if it's a not-terrible idea to do Valentines instead, should we mention that they're intended as Christmas/Hanukkah replacements?

I have a reputation for being a chronic procrastinator and ball-dropper among people in my hometown, and I fear this will be yet another instance of "witchen is a fuckup and also a weirdo." My spouse is pretty much whatevs on most things, so I feel like this is my decision to make.
