Amazon’s New Android Tablets Set for Christmas Release

Online retailer Amazon is all set to launch new Android tablets. The Amazon tablets, sporting 10-inch and 7-inch displays, will be ready sooner than expected, probably before the huge Christmas shopping season. The new tablets will be pushed into a market crowded by the Apple iPad, the Android-based Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab slates. Amazon’s tablets will feature a custom version of Android 3.0 Honeycomb, LCD screens, Adobe Flash and will have Nvidia Tegra quad-core chip under the hood. We also get to know that the new devices will use a display similar to the one seen in the Nook and the Galaxy Tab. However, Amazon originally wanted a screen that could switch between the black and white E Ink-like display that consumers prefer on Amazon’s Kindle. But, after discussing it out with the two vendors that Amazon was looking to use, an inference was made that a suitable display wouldn’t be ready until as late as 2013. In the meantime, it is also expected that the 7-inch tablet will be priced at $349 and the 10-inch at $449. If this ends up true, the devices could have an extra edge when competing with much more expensive packages from Apple, Samsung and RIM.
